Haven’t Stopped Drawing!

Posted in daily sketch, animation stories, lessons, student on June 30th, 2008 by lanimate

Where ever I go (mainly, to the beach), I take along my trusty sketchbook, watercolor paper, pens, waterbrush pens, pencils sharpeners and my small water color set.

Here is another view from the North end of Tybee- the lighthouse

I have a blast- working with watercolors first or pens first or sketching with pencils in my book. I never do a pre-drawing with pencil- I like to go free form and see what develops.

BOUND TO HAPPEN a student animated music video

Posted in production journal, news, lessons, student on April 16th, 2008 by lanimate

This student animated music video is the by-product of a 6 session animation workshop for the FEFC Home School organization.
We combined weeks of 2D, stop-motion, pixilation… using paper, pencils, clay, people, objects and pasta.

Many thanks to the students for their hard work and animated “play”. Special thanks to my daughter-in-law, Michelle Armstrong Lauria for her inspiration, music, and voice…and her performance! She is also truly amazing!

More Thanks to the FEFC and Janey Miley for their tireless work and support.

I enjoy teaching these kinds of classes because the joy, passion and energy reflected by these folks is simply wonderful.
They love what they are doing and are unafraid to try new ideas.

Thanks Everyone!

Posted in daily sketch, art, lessons, student on January 29th, 2008 by lanimate

Here is a brand new character- for now, he is Animation Freak boy. Here is a demo of his head construction beginning with simple forms and then just adding and adding and adding.

The expression on the Freek Boy allows me to demonstrate the facial mask and how the brows control the eye shapes.

Here are the Animation Freek Girl and Boy characters - any ideas for names?

An Answer to a Question about Cute Little Girls characters

Posted in daily sketch, art, lessons, student on November 29th, 2007 by lanimate

This the answer to an email I received today regarding the construction and design of Cute Little Girl Characters.

The request wanted a simple character that could be made into a CG character.

As always I began with 3D type construction to breakdown the character into simple forms and then “play” from there.

Besides the sketch I drew for the demo- I added a few more ideas…
