With summer coming to a close, I must renew my efforts to establish a flow and finish my projects. These include a film project, the animation center, and my artwork. Actually sales of artwork have been good the past few months as well as cards and prints.

More on all these later…

On vacation with Our “Kids”

Posted in daily sketch, art, news, festivals on July 19th, 2007 by lanimate

Hey!

This week is a bit of a “holiday” week while our “kids” and their spouses are in town.

I will be posting my next week. I am still doing some art…just because that inner voice never takes a holiday.

My most recent painting at Plato's Gallery on the South end of Tybee Island...all my other shells had sold!

I was able to squeeze in some painting duriing my recent trip to visit my daughter, Ally and her husband, Brandon.

I decided to paint the view from her doorstep- which I call…The View from Ally’s Doorstep.

One of the six in the works is one I began the other day from the pier on Tybee Island with a view toward Hilton Head, SC.

I have to finish everything this week.

This drawing is called Patriot Bear. There will be a huge fireworks display on Tybee Island tonight with thousands in attendance- if you go...expect to stay until 1:00 am -only one road off the island.

Today I celebrate the freedoms we have…to assemble…to have an opinion….freedom of religion… to agree or disagree…freedom to animate!

When we lived in Northern Virgina- we would celebrate by attending the free concert on the mall…back then, it was not the “Hollywood number” it is today.

My producer at the time was Tony Ames, the best producer I have EVER worked with…

Tony has been the Principle Percussionist for the National Symphony Orchestra for about 30 years. The man is perpetual motion! He will be playing the snare drum lead in for the National Anthem tonight at the beginning of the concert on PBS…so his drumming is the first sound you hear.

I have a whole species of characters I named after him…..

Have a great day!

Guess Who?

A few days ago I received an email regarding this event in Los Angeles on July 11th

Here is the link to a site for FREE tickets and more information….just click here

The text of the email follows….wish I was in L.A. on the 11th….

Headline: An Animator’s Grand Salute to Woody Woodpecker! Guess Who!

On July 11, StoryMakers Studio brings several of the biggest names in the cartoon world to the Grauman’s Chinese Theatres Complex in Hollywood:

celebrated author, film critic and cartoon buff Leonard Maltin,

six-time Emmy® Award winning cartoon producer Phil Roman,

and voice actors June Foray (“Woody Woodpecker,” “Rocky and Bullwinkle,” Disney’s “Mulan”),

Maurice LaMarche (“Futurama, “Animaniacs,” “Pinky and the Brain”) and

Billy West (“The New Woody Woodpecker Show,” “Ren & Stimpy,” “Futurama”).

“We wouldn’t be surprised if these voice artists spent part of the evening talking as the characters they’re so well known for,” said Ronn Campbell, StoryMakers Studio’s executive producer. “Here’s the best thing. You can enjoy this event whether you’re in Los Angeles or NOT,” Campbell adds. “In fact, we already have people from Europe and Asia reserving their viewing passes at http://www.StoryMakersStudio.com/woodywoodpecker” In addition, everyone who signs up to watch the Woody Woodpecker event has a choice of eBooks that are of interest to anyone who currently works in animation; wants to work in animation; or is simply an animation fan. “When the word got out that we were doing this event, animation professionals and fans from all over the world started contacting us, asking for a way they could enjoy our Woody Woodpecker event,” said series host and confessed cartoon fan Gordon Meyer. “We’re delighted that we can make this available to them.” Details of the event including how cartoon fans can enjoy StoryMakers Studio’s Salute to Woody Woodpecker and Walter Lantz, can be found at:
