On the subject of inexpensive 2d pencil test software, I was recently working with Toki Line Tester, which is by far the most inexpensive and also available for OS X. I used it professionally, but as far as line testers go, it is very basic (and therefore inexpensive) You can use a webcam or any difital camera with is.
And on this occasion: Hi to Larry, has been a while and I keep bumping into students of yours! Keep up the good work. Tobs

Hey Adam,

The set-up I used was pretty cheap...er...I mean inexpensive.

I set up a with my webcam to shoot on my animation disc ( for registration) and then use my FLIPBOOK program to do the test. FLIPBOOK is by Digicel, Inc. and very inexpensive.

The set-uo DO NOT use lights- just normal lighting.

The only drawback is... that's as close as I can get....to the art work.

For a down and dirty look at what you are doing...as a test...it is quick and easy.

For finished work I scan everything in and color it in FLIPBOOK...

Hope that helps...

Thanks.

Hmmm, I'm curious how you set it up. I'm thinking of making an el cheap-o pencil test station myself and was thinking of using a webcam, two lights and a pegbar but couldn't figure out how I'd keep it all sturdy so there wouldn't be any change frame to frame of camera angle/height and light intensity. Looks like you just shot your desk, but the camera is still, how'd you do it?

Thanks for your comment Sam.

You are right- the quality is not great...

I used a webcam to shoot the test with Flipbook- I admit it is "quick and dirty" but I just wanted to quickly check out the timing and the motion. I did not scan the drawings in...I am going to upgrade and use a digital video camera- so the next test should be better....

On my site the test looks better...

Thanks again...

Can't make out a damn thing in that video. You should have cropped out all of the excess before resizing and ulpoading it to youtube. On my computer, the video is about the size of the palm of my hand, but the actual animation is about the size of the fingernail on my pinky.

I would guess you've already learned about efficient use of screen space?
